The Davies coat of arms
The Davies family home, Ceunant, Welshpool [Y Cymmrodor, 1935]

Thomas Davies's family came from Welshpool in mid-Wales, but became involved in the early development of the English empire. One brother was a member of the colony founded in Surinam in 1652 and another was a surgeon in Pennsylvania in 1683.

Thomas himself owned a sugar plantation in Barbados and worked for the English East India Company in West Africa in 1662-63.
