The preservation of natural history specimens

Although the primary role of our conservators is primarily to deal with the collections, they have also been actively researching and developing new techniques to protect museum specimens. Currently, this research is focussing on the conservation of spirit collections, especially relating to its effect on DNA, and on identifying the past used of toxic insecticides and fungicides on herbarium sheets.
