When and what to record

Fully open crocus

To be awarded Super Scientist Certificates and a chance to win a nature-activity trip, pupils must send in their weekly weather records and individual flowering dates. See details below.

Crocus flowering dates

Each pupil must record and input the date that their 1st Crocus flower opens. You only count a flower as open when you can see inside the petals (see picture).

To do this you must log-in using your class username and password. We ask each pupil to send in data so we can get the average flowering date at each school. Please record the date that each Crocus flower opens and the height on the flowering day.

Measure the height at the top of you flower from the soil. Most Crocus flowers open anytime between mid January and early March. Study last years maps and report to find out more. *During school holidays - take your plant home if it looks like it's about to flower! Keep it outside and note when the 1st flower opens and the height on that day.
