Festive Fun at the Glanely Discovery Gallery

Why is gold shiny? Why are some insects iridescent? How are pearls formed? Why do some crystals scatter light? For answers to these questions and many more, why not visit the Glanely Gallery at National Museum Cardiff over the next few weeks?

December’s theme at the discovery gallery is ‘All that Glitters’, and there’s plenty of activities for everyone. We'll be running creative activities, making festive baubles based on geological treasures, creating pictures inspired by dazzling insects and also taking part in the museum's Christmas Fun day. All this and much more!

10 & 11 December – Find out more and make a mineral inspired bauble to take home.

18 – 30 December – Why do some creatures have such an amazing sparkle? Make an artwork inspired by what you have seen.

31 December – Make a special journal to record your observations in 2006

This gallery enables you to pick up and examine a selection of our artifacts and, with the help of experts, have a go at identifying your own collections. Alternatively, if you want to catch up with the latest discoveries in art or archaeology, the Glanely Gallery has a wide variety of sources to help you. It’s packed with state-of-the-art resources as well as being equipped with the humble scissors and glue for that more ‘hands on’ feel.
