Amgueddfa Cymru – National Museum Wales’s historic photography goes digital thanks to a £600,000 gift from the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation
Wales has many fascinating stories to tell through the work of the artists and collectors from, or inspired by, Wales. A number of these stories will be told in the new £6.5m National Museum of Art, which opened to the public on Saturday 9 July 2011.
Roll up roll up! Get ready to be amazed, awed and astounded! From Spartacus to Russell Crowe’s Maximus, the gladiator has always aroused a sense of fear and excitement. Now there’s a chance to step back in time and experience life as a Gladiator at the National Roman Legion Museum, Caerleon in the Roman garden on Saturday 2 & Sunday 3 July, 10am-5pm.
National Museum Cardiff once again hosts Wildlife Photographer of the Year, from 18 June to 11 September 2011, in the newly opened Natural History galleries.

A week of Lunchtime Conversations at this year’s Hay Festival of Literature and Arts will welcome the public to join in a series of lively informed debates. Hanes Cymru-History Wales, a partnership of Wales’s leading heritage organisations, will provide a platform for expert speakers from the heritage, arts and university sectors to discuss, question and celebrate history in modern Wales. Topics will include cultural tourism, economic regeneration and science teaching in Wales.
