Big Birthday, Skilled Soldiers and Spectacular Sights - Ermine Street Guard marks 35th Anniversary at Roman Military Spectacular
The Ermine Street Guard has become a familiar sight at the Roman Military Spectacular, Caerleon, South Wales. But this year’s event (7 and 8 July 2007) will be of greater significance for the soldiers as the Guard celebrates its 35th Birthday.
The National Roman Legion Museum is honoured the Guard is returning to the spectacular event, exactly 35 years since the eight founder members of the society first paraded at the historical pageant in the combined Gloucestershire villages of Witcombe and Bentham.
To mark Amgueddfa Cymru - National Museum Wales's centenary celebrations, a major exhibition exploring the remarkable lives of the sisters Gwendoline (1882-1951) and Margaret Davies (1884-1963) goes on show at National Museum Cardiff.
Gwendoline and Margaret Davies were two extraordinary women who amassed one of the most stunning British art collections of the 20th century, and were the greatest benefactors of the Museum's first hundred years.
National Museum Cardiff will be closed on Tuesday 5 June 2007 due to a function being held by the National Assembly for Wales at which Her Majesty The Queen will be the principal guest. Two of Wales’s most prominent national institutions, Amgueddfa Cymru - National Museum Wales and the National Library, are sponsoring the Crown at this year’s National Eisteddfod at Mold in August.
During a ceremony to be held at the National Library of Wales, Aberystwyth on Friday 18 May, the Crown will be formally presented to the Eisteddfod - part of a series of events to mark the centenary of both Amgueddfa Cymru and the National Library and a recognition by them of the contribution of the Eisteddfod to Welsh cultural life.
