Archaeology - National Museum Cardiff
The archaeology gallery Origins: In search of Early Wales has now closed but you can still enjoy our archaeology collections online on the Rhagor section of the website. You can also join a Behind-the-Scenes Tour or Lunchtime Talk to find out more about archaeology in Wales. The What’s On section of our website provides a list of these free talks and tours.
The archaeology collection are moving to St Fagans National History Museum as part of the Making History Project, an exciting £25.5 million initiative to transform this much-loved museum.
The former Origins: in search of Early Wales gallery is being used for the storage and conservation of the objects, ready to move to St Fagans National History Museum. Archaeology collections will form part of the new galleries being created, telling the history of the people of Wales from the very first human inhabitants to the present day and beyond, extending the timeline of the current stories told at St Fagans. These new galleries are due to open in 2017.
Even though this gallery is closed, plans are in progress to re-open the gallery as a new temporary exhibition space at National Museum Cardiff in 2016.
