Monograph of British and Irish Whitebeams (Sorbus)

Cambrensis Clydach

Welsh Whitebeam - Sorbus cambrensis - First found in 1874 and classed as Grey-leaved Whitebeam, biochemical studies have recently shown this to be a new species.

Staff: Tim Rich

The tree genus Sorbus in the British Isles includes 52 species and hybrids. Many whitebeam species are rare and endemic (eight endemic to Wales), having evolved recently. The project in collaboration with Royal Botanic Gardens Kew, Bristol University, Exeter University and other botanists aims to revise the taxonomy of the species, provide information on their ecology and reproductive biology and their evolution.

The monograph was published in 2010 in collaboration with the Botanical Society of the British Isles and is available from their official book sellers Summerfield Books:
