How We Used to Live

Big Pit National Coal Museum

Find out what home life was like before the advent of washing machines, vacuum cleaners and electricity. How did women cope with the coal dust brought home on the clothes of the men from the mine? A hands-on session using objects to illustrate domestic tasks in the past, with a particular focus on washday. With songs, movement and an art activity.

 

Duration: 1 hour
Cost: Free of charge as this session is being piloted.

Mini Miners - Number and Language Play

Big Pit National Coal Museum

Develop basic numeracy and literacy skills using mini miner’s activity bags available at the Museum. Opportunities for investigating, listening and predicting, with songs, rhymes and imaginative play activities.

There are two activity bags available each supporting a 1 hour teacher-led activity. Both bags can be booked for a full day’s visit.

Duration: 1 hour
Cost: Free of charge as is a self-led session.
