Siân Meinir singing the Gorsedd prayer, written by Iolo Morganwg and set to music by W.S. Gwynn Williams.

The Gorsedd Prayer is chanted at the beginning of every Gorsedd ceremony in the Gorsedd Circle and on the pavilion stage. It appeared in print for the first time in Seren Gomer 1820 (p.245) in a number which contained several other forgeries by Iolo Morganwg. It's likely that versions of the Prayer were recited regularly in gorseddau during the following years.

It was in Holyhead in 1927 that it was chanted for the first time to music composed by W.S.Gwynn Williams, the Gorsedd Music Organiser.

Here we hear Sian Meinir offering the Gorsedd Prayer during the Chairing ceremony at Newport and District National Eisteddfod, 2004.

Translation:

'Grant, o God, thy protection;
and in protection, strength;
and in strength, wisdom;
and in wisdom, knowledge;
and in knowledge, knowledge of what is just;
and in knowledge of what is just, its loving;
and from loving, love all existing things;
and in loving all existing things, love God;
God and all goodness.'
