Big Pit is a real coal mine and one of Britain's leading mining museums.

This award–winning national museum stands high on the heather–clad moors of Blaenafon, designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO as an exceptionally well–preserved example of an early industrial landscape.

This living reminder of the coal industry in Wales offers several totally unique venues available for daytime hire.

As part of your day, your guests can also enjoy our Mining Galleries and historic colliery buildings, exhibitions in the Pithead Baths as well as book a place on our world–famous underground tour.

With a Committee Room, Cafeteria, Learning Room and Temporary Exhibition Space to choose from, you are sure to find the perfect location for your event. Click the links below for further information.

Our dedicated team and in–house caterer will help you plan and organise your event from start to finish.

All food is prepared using the freshest, locally–sourced and seasonal ingredients whenever possible and can be adapted to suit your needs — download a menu.

Venue Hire supports the work of Amgueddfa Cymru — National Museum Wales, a registered charity.
