Looking at Buildings

Posted by Sian Lile-Pastore on 29 September 2010

Ysgol Rhiwmawr came to our Looking at Buildings session today. They made the most fantastic models of Llainfadyn and Nant Wallter

We've been busy all week setting up the Keepsakes exhibtion. Conservators Sue and Megan have been looking after all the objects and carefully installing them in the glass cases. Yesterday, Becky and Prue, the two lead artists, and Lucy from Womens Arts Association came by to help with the curation and make sure everything was going to plan.

Today we've been working out where to put objects on the chest and bureau, and got clever people to set up the projection for us so visitors can now see a little film from our archive from 1965 of a basketmaker at work.

Alan from 10four design has made some beautiful information and image panels for us and they pull the exhibition together perfectly.

The Keepsakes exhibition opens on 11 September so we are busy getting the gallery ready. So far the walls have been freshly painted and we are waiting for the delivery of our lovely information panels.

The exhibition is in collaboration with Women's Arts Association (for some of the background have a look at my previous keepsakes blog!) who employed artists Becky Adams and Prue Thimbleby to work with community groups in and around Cardiff. The groups looked at objects from the collections in St Fagans: National History Museum and made their own art works inspired by what they saw.

We will be showing the women’s art work alongside the museum’s objects, and here’s a sneak preview of some of the objects that the women have made.
