Poet and artist Pascale Petit and Melissa Munro (Derek Williams Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art) will guide an exclusive Dylan Thomas-themed tour. Starting with some of the Museum’s Surrealist collections, they will explore why Dylan was drawn to the movement without wanting his writing to be a part of it. The focus will then shift to Dylan’s influence on artists and popular culture with a guided tour of the museum’s collection of Dylan-inspired works including a glimpse of Ceri Richards’ sketchbooks, which contain illustrations of, and responses to, Dylan’s literature.

The tour will also include a viewing of several of Lee Miller’s original photographs of Dylan with Antony Penrose, son of Miller and the artist Roland Penrose, who organised the 1936 International Surrealist Exhibition. Performance poet Rhys Trimble will bring the tour to a close with a bilingual performance drawing on the psychotropic elements of Dylan’s work.

This event is organised by Literature Wales, as part of Dylan Thomas 100, the year-long celebration of the birth of Dylan Thomas. The cost includes light refreshments.
