This talk will give an introduction to Monmouth-born Sir Charles Jackson (1906-1936) and his collection of historic silver. Jackson’s approach to collecting was academic, reflecting his passionate interest in the history and development of hallmarking. His seminal work, English Goldsmiths and Their Marks, was described as ‘the newest and best of handbooks’ on its release in 1905
