The Industry & Transport collections comprise three-dimensional objects, documents, photographs, books, works of art, film and sound recordings and consists of approximately 280,000 items. The core responsibility for the collections and access staff, based at the National Collections Centre, Nantgarw, is to maintain the Museum's accountability for its collections as they enter the department via the National Slate Museum Llanberis, Big Pit National Coal Museum, National Waterfront Museum Swansea as well as those collections entering via the National Collections Centre. Their main duties can, therefore, be summarised as, maintaining legal ownership of potential acquisitions, the accessioning of newly acquired objects, the re-documenting of the collections, the maintenance of location records and the administering of inward and outward loans.
