Down to Earth

Have you ever touched an object from outer space? Students in Wales can now learn more about meteorites, impacts, and rocks on the Earth, Moon and Mars using real specimens.

All secondary school children throughout Wales can handle meteorites, meet researchers, and create impact craters using a new computer programme. Why not try it for yourself?

Schools can borrow the handling sets of meteorites, rocks from Earth moon and Mars and dinosaur fossils from the Amgueddfa Cymru — National Museum of Wales Outreach Collection. Each set is accompanied by lesson plans which link them with the science curriculum.

This is a joint project between Amgueddfa Cymru-National Museum Wales and the Faulkes Telescope Project at Cardiff University, and is funded by the Science and Technology Facilities Council.

"By handling real meteorites and investigating dramatic events like the extinction of the dinosaurs, children will understand how exciting science and maths can be."
