Mike Wilson: Head of Entomology Section

Expertise and interests

Systematics and biology of Auchenorrhyncha (leafhoppers, plant hoppers etc.), particularly in the Palaearctic region. Also interest in those species associated with crops, including rice and in vector species.

Current projects

• Preparation of a revised handbook to British Fulgoroidea (with Alan Stewart, University of Sussex) and faunistic studies on British Auchenorrhyncha.
• Taxonomic studies on the family Meenoplidae (Fulgoroidea).
• Studies on the biology of Prokelisia (Delphacidae) in Portugal.

John Deeming: Curator (Entomology)

Expertise and interests

Systematics and biology of the higher flies (Cyclorrhapha) with particular reference to those of economic importance, including the taxonomy of immature stages.

Current projects

• Preparing papers on the taxonomy of several genera of flies injurious to cereals and grasses of the families Chloropidae (grass flies), Muscidae (family containing the house flies), Ephydridae (lake flies) and Agromyzidae (leaf-miners). Recently awarded a Ph.D. from Cardiff University.

Brian Levey: Curator (Entomology )

Expertise and interests

Systematics and biology of Coleoptera (beetles) with a particular interest in species associated with dead wood microhabitats. Systematics of Buprestidae (Jewel Beetles) of the world.

Current Projects

• Studying the biodiversity of insects associated with ancient trees in two Welsh parklands, in collaboration with Countryside Council for Wales.
• A systematic study of British species Coleoptera, Scraptiidae and Mordellidae.
• Systematic revisions of a number of groups of Buprestidae (Coleoptera).

• Distribution of Aculeate Hymenoptera in Wales.
