'Alien' snail


Alien snails can be found in some gardens. Its shell is smaller than a five pence piece. It can be brown, orange or grey in colour. Sometimes it may be spotted.
Latin name: Hygromia cinctella
Look carefully at the shape of the shell to identify your snail correctly
Top view Round with a spiral from the centre.
Side view Very pointed at the top - triangular - like a pyramid. Ridge around middle - which is often white in colour. You can feel this ridge with your fingers on the side of the shell.
Bottom view Round without a 'belly-button' like hole.
