Is the 'alien' snail spreading?

Since 1950, when the 'alien' was 1st spotted in Devon, it has settled in a further 16 (vice*) counties. It has now spread as far north as Yorkshire!

Recent snail search results show that the 'alien' is still spreading! Since 2001, snail searchers have discovered the snail living in 11 vice counties!

In total, we have received 988 snail reports and 94 confirmed 'alien' snail sightings! Take a look at the maps and charts for yourself.

Many thanks to all the families, schools and snail searchers that helped!

Can snails help us record local climate change?

*A vice county is an old county boundary. By counting snails found in within these old boundaries we can compare new records with those collected hundreds of years ago.
