Come and join the National Museum & Gallery on 9 July for a day full of activities in celebration of science in Cardiff, as part of the first ever Cardiff Science Festival, which is held from 7

Dr Colin Bailey, Chief Curator at New York's famous Frick Collection, tonight spoke at the US launch of Colour and Light, an impressive new book outlining the history of the world-acclaimed Impressionist and Post-Impressionist art collection at the National Museum of Wales in Cardiff. He said:

"This is the first book on Cardiff's collection to be published for over twenty years. Having been to Cardiff myself, I am delighted that the National Museum of Wales has brought this book here to New York to launch. I congratulate the author Ann Sumner and the Museum on this excellent book."

Claude Monet (1840-1926) one of the leading members of the Impressionist group, had a keen interest in gardening, as his later works clearly show. His garden at Giverny has long been admired by art lovers and gardeners alike, and works such as his delicate paintings of the Waterlilies became some of the most famous paintings in the world.

A selection of decorative jewellery and other artefacts from the Bronze Age up to the seventeenth century has been declared treasure today by H.M. Coroner for Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan.

The quarterly meetings of the Council of the National Museums & Galleries of Wales are open to the public. The next open meeting will take place in the Court Room, National Museum and Gallery. Starting at 9:30am with the open session starting at around 9.45am.
