Tedi Twt and Doli Glwt visit the Museum - Learning: National Waterfront Museum

Purpose:
The aim is to develop bi-lingual skills using Welsh vocabulary and familiar language patterns. The day allows children to hear and use Welsh outside the classroom setting. The content is also suitable for delivering Cwricwlwm Cymreig as children discover important aspects of the industrial history of Wales.
Athrawon Bro session:
This 50 minute morning session will be led by members of the Athrawon Bro team from San Helen Swansea. Children will hear the Tedi Twt and Doli Glwt visit the Museum big book being read and join in with numerous Welsh language songs. Children will follow a trail around the Museum to find out facts about Welsh history and practise using familiar Welsh language patterns. Especially prepared materials have been created for the trail and each child will have their own card to attach Tedi Twt stickers to, showing they have found the object.
Object handling session:
This 50 minute morning session is facilitated by a member of the Museum staff member whose first language is Welsh. Children will learn about, and handle, artefacts identified in the Tedi Twt and Doli Glwt visit the Museum big book. They will learn about the history of the object and practise using familiar Welsh language patterns e.g. counting, asking and answering questions in Welsh. Opportunities for exploration of the objects and for role play are included.
Children will be introduced to the Welsh words for the objects used in the past.
Art session:
This afternoon session is facilitated by a member of the Museum staff member whose first language is Welsh .Children will collage a Doli Glwt or Tedi Twt character. Commands, simple instructions, colour names and vocabulary for resources are given in Welsh.
Tedi Twt a Doli Glwt booklet time:
During this teacher led session in the afternoon, each child will have a booklet called Hwyl a sbri to use on a re-visit to the galleries. Children are given opportunity to freely record their own ideas or drawings in the booklet as they desire.
A free teacher's pack containing ideas for classroom use, as well as a copy of the book Tedi Twt and Doli Glwt visit the Museum will be available.
