Meet the Team
Dr Mark Redknap - project director
"My role ranges from setting the research questions and gathering the resources needed, to running the fieldwork, display and publication. On site my time is usually spent guiding the team, identifying finds and features and what I really enjoy, digging! As the successive seasons of excavation have now produced a rich and diverse range of evidence, I am now comparing this with information available on contemporary sites."
Mark Lodwick - trench supervisor
"Work on the excavations continues throughout the year, not just when we are on site. This year we have been making sense of the thousands of co-ordinates recorded while surveying the site and plotting the positions of finds. We have now produced a revised plot of the field showing detailed contours and the distribution of finds."
Evan Chapman - finds supervisor
"In 2000 I was a trench supervisor, but I've swapped roles this year to take over from Heather Jackson as finds supervisor. It's a job I'm already familiar with, having been finds supervisor at the site between 1995 - 1999."
Brian - trench supervisor
Brian isn't a full time member of the museum staff and won't be joining the team until the dig starts - which is why we're writing this piece for him.
Brian is a very experienced archaeologist who's worked at Llanbedrgoch for several years. When he's not digging, he dedicates much of his time to 'The Monkey Sanctuary' in Cornwall which helps to organise and fund the rehabilitation of captive and wild born confiscated Woolly monkeys.
It takes a lot more than the these four people to make the dig run smoothly. Each year the project gets a lot of support from the landowner, and the two detectorists who found the site, Archie Gillespie and Pete Corbett. There's also a site surveyor, who works on the plans for the site, as well as a crew of students from Bangor and Cardiff Universities and other volunteers.
