Caradog the Curious Cat - Learning: National Waterfront Museum

Purpose:
The aim of the session is to provide children with the opportunity to enjoy a museum visit where curiosity, exploration and fun form the learning experience.
Tales from Caradog the Curious Cat:
Singing, story telling, object handling and bilingualism feature in this session led by a member of the learning team. Children will be meet Caradog the Curious Cat who will tell them about an unusual or unfamiliar object from the Museum’s collection. Children will have opportunity to guess its identity or use. They will be encouraged to develop language and observational skills through asking and answering questions about the object. Children will listen to the Caradog’s tales and will learn about what life was like in Wales in the past. Children will practise familiar language patterns in Welsh relevant to their age.
Children will also have opportunity to draw the curious object on a specially prepared worksheet. Teachers may wish to bring digital cameras to allow children to photograph the object.
The session will end with a hunt to locate the object in the Museum’s display. Each week a different object will be used making this session ideal for repeated visits.

- Develop bi-lingual skills in learning Welsh vocabulary and practising familiar Welsh language patterns

- Develop an understanding about how people lived in the past; how things changed and what is still the same
