Mixed Materials - Learning: National Waterfront Museum
Duration:
3 sessions each lasting 1 hour.
Capacity:
2 groups of up to 30 pupils in each.
Suitable for:
Key Stage 2.
Purpose:
To investigate materials.
Science workshop:
During this facilitated session in the morning, children will take part in a workshop to look at the properties of copper and iron. Children will learn about the properties of these metals including density, malleability and magnetism, and consider the properties of these metals in relation to their uses.
Explorer Boxes:
During this teacher led session, the class will break into groups (each led by an adult) to explore the galleries to find out how some materials are formed or produced. They will compare the features and properties of some natural and man made materials.
Marvellous Metals worksheet:
During this teacher led session, the class will break into groups (each led by an adult) to complete a worksheet about the important role metals have in Welsh industry.
