From Steep Hillsides: Ancient Rock Carvings from Dazu, China - Teachers Notes.

The rock carvings in this exhibition come from the cave temples at Dazu World Heritage Site near Chongqing in south-west China. Carving began in this area in the middle of the seventh century and developed for more than four centuries from the late ninth century to the thirteenth century.

These notes will help you to prepare for a self-led visit to this exhibition. Only one class of children will be allowed into the gallery at any one time. The drawing suggestions can be carried out in the gallery using a pencil. Please bring your own paper / sketch books if you want your pupils to do this.
