Caring Professions Learning: National Waterfront Museum

The Changing Role of Welsh Women

The visit will develop students’ knowledge and understanding of the changing role of women in industrial Wales. It is a full morning programme and tutors may wish to allow more time to re-visit the galleries in the afternoon.

Three activities throughout the day include:

  • a character actress who looks both back on her life and forward to the changes and opportunities she hopes will be available to women.
  • an object handling session with opportunities to handle work objects used inside and outside the home.
  • a work booklet to use around the museum. Supplementary information on laminated sheets about the role of women in industrial Wales is added to the gallery cases for the duration of the visit.

Health and Social Care

The visit will develop students’ knowledge and understanding of the different factors that might have affected people’s health along with what health care provision was available in nineteenth century industrial Wales. It is a full morning programme and tutors may wish to allow more time to re-visit the galleries in the afternoon.

Three activities throughout the day include:

  • a character actress session.
  • a dialogue session or an object handling session.
  • a work booklet to use around the museum. Supplementary information on laminated sheets about health and social care in Victorian industrial Wales is added to the gallery cases for the duration of the visit.

Child Care

The visit will develop students’ knowledge and understanding of the changing role and care of children in nineteenth century industrial Wales. It is a full morning programme and tutors may wish to allow more time to re-visit the galleries in the afternoon.

Three activities throughout the day include:

  • a character actress session.
  • a dialogue session or an object handling session.
  • a work booklet to use around the museum. Supplementary information on laminated sheets about role and care of children in Victorian industrial Wales is added to the gallery cases for the duration of the visit.
