Sir John Aubrey (1680-1743) 3rd baronet of Llantrithyd and Boarstall, was MP for Cardiff 1706-10 and Sheriff of Glamorgan. The costume of the sitter suggests that the picture was painted in the early 1700s.

this piece of art is simply a masterpiece. The subtle colours and astonishing brush lines magnificently portray a collect image of power. I am in deep and true love with this painting. Thankyou Sir John Aubrey for bringing me this pleasure i have been seeking all my life.
