Lougher from Penclawdd
MORRIS, Sir Cedric (1889 - 1982)
Media: oil on canvas
Size: 60 x 73 cm
Acquired: 2008; assistance from the Derek Williams Trust
Accession Number: NMW A 29356
The semi-rural fringes of Swansea in the foreground of the painting contrast starkly with the chimneys and smoke of industrial Wales in the background. It is a generalised depiction of the Llanelli shoreline from Penclacwydd. Loughor, in the title, is in fact not visible in the painting. Cedric Morris was born in Sketty, Swansea and would have known the surrounding landscape well.

I saw this painting last week. We live in Llanelli and think that Lougher shown in the painting is Machynys.
Machynys was an industrial area. Lougher is further up the estuary. What a pity Cedris Morris is no longer around to confirm or deny.
