GRIFFITH, James Milo (1843 - 1897)
Media: marble relief
Size: 41.1 cm
Acquired: 1912; Transfer; Cardiff Museum
Accession Number: NMW A 1722
Probably identical with the Medallion head in marble, dated 1870 in the artist's inventory. The subject is Llywelyn ap Gruffydd (d.1282), the last Welsh prince. It may be a pair to Griffith's Alto relievo, Head of Boadicea exhibited in Cardiff in 1870. Llywelyn and Boadicea are among the statues of Welsh heroes at Cardiff City Hall, inaugurated in 1916.
