Cofio'r Cau - National Slate Museum
During the Spring and Summer terms of 2009, a series of intergenerational story telling sessions were arranged in the National Slate Museum to commemorate the People's memories of the period when the Dinorwig quarry closed in 1969.
The stories were created with the help of some of the students of Ysgol Brenrefail.
The pupils benefited from hearing the living history of the contributors who introduced their own stories, through working with the students.
Anita Butler: Quarryman�s Pride
A young woman who had every opportunity even though her father lost his job at the quarry.
Arwel Jones: Busman�s Prophecy
Son of a bus driver, who had long since foreseen the quarry�s closure.
Catherine Foulkes: My Days in the Office
One of the office girls in 1969.
Clarice Roberts: The Bull
Clarice and her husband had just taken over 'The Bull' at Deiniolen when they heard of the quarry closure.
Dic Jones: Slate in my Blood
Dic worked at Dinorwig Quarry during the 60s � he was kept on after August 1969 to finish the remaining orders.
Dilys Baylis: The Quarry Hooter
Dilys wrote this poem in response to the quarry closure. Here she reads her work forty years later.
