How would a Welsh dresser look after four generations in one family? This is one possibility.
The Welsh Dresser at Oriel 1, St Fagans: National History Museum
People of all cultures have a place in their homes to keep and display their most precious belongings.
A Welsh dresser is like a personal museum, a place to display old and new, side by side.
Things are added and changed, others stay the same through the generations. Each dresser tells the story of its owners.
We want to create a contemporary dresser, one that reflects what is important to people today.
Objects curated by different communities from around Wales will be displayed in the Oriel 1 gallery, St Fagans: National History Museum, for 6 months at a time, and then returned to their owners.
Over time, we hope to display a number of objects. They will also be displayed permanently in ‘Rhagor’, our Virtual Museum.
These will reflect the story of Wales today, just as the traditional Welsh dresser reflected the history of families over the centuries.
