'Lovespoons', traditionally crafted from wood, were usually given from one loved-one to another to signify affection. The individual Lovespoon also held many personal symbols such as bells to signify a wedding, a chain for togetherness and security or even a dragon to symbolise Welsh patriotism. The earliest known Welsh Lovespoon, that resides at St Fagans: National History Museum, is dated 1667. Today, Lovespoons are still widely collected and very much represent what they did 300 years ago.
