St Fagans Lovespoon Collection - 7
Availability: In stock!
This stunning collection of Welsh Lovespoons have been hand carved by Sion Llewellyn. Each one is based on a Lovespoon from the collection at St Fagans: National History Museum.
A lovespoon maker of the highest calibre, Sion Llewellyn was born in Ogmore Vale, Bridgend and began carving lovespoons at the age of twelve. While virtually self-taught in spoon carving, he holds a City and Guilds qualification in cabinet making and in 1979 won the craft section at the National Eisteddfod in Caernarfon for designing and constructing his own harp. Sion set up his lovespoon-making company in 1997 and has always been passionate about employing traditional symbols and carving methods on his handcrafted artefacts, each one made from a single piece of wood. He is keen to stress the tradition’s folk origins and prefers to distance himself from the blatant commercialism attached to the craft in recent years.
