Transforming Children's Futures

...by creating pathways for cultural participation

Amgueddfa Cymru's Strategy for supporting participation in cultural activities for children, young people and families in poverty 2012-2015

We need your views...

The consultation period will run until 20th March 2012. During this time we are seeking input from as wide a range of organisations and individuals as possible, either electronically, via e-mail: consult@museumwales.ac.uk

or in hard copy format to:

Transforming Children's Futures, Amgueddfa Cymru – National Museum Wales, Cathays Park, Cardiff CF10 3NP.

Please include your contact details if you would like a response. Amgueddfa Cymru complies with the Data Protection Act 1998, as set out in our Data Protection Policy, and will not disclose your personal information to any 3rd party.

While we would like your responses to our questions below, please do give us your comments and feedback in whatever format suits you best.

During the consultation, we will we will speak directly with children living in poverty, and their families, asking them what their national museums can do for them. If you work in a school and would like to be involved, please get in touch. We will host a series of seminars at each of our national museums so that we can engage with sector specialists from charities, local authorities and all those currently involved in the Children and Young Peoples Partnerships at a local level. We will also organise a conference to take place in Summer 2012 which considers the role that museums have to play in addressing child poverty.

Please respond to those questions that you feel relevant to you/your organisation

  1. What should Amgueddfa Cymru — National Museum Wales be doing to increase access and address participation poverty?

  2. Is our strategy appropriate and relevant? Are there gaps in the strategy?

  3. Where should we target our resources to achieve most benefit? Which geographic areas should Amgueddfa Cymru target?

  4. Which partners should we be engaging with? How can we generate more partnerships? Would you consider being a partner in delivering this strategy?

  5. Are there any barriers you perceive to engaging with the Museum?

Once we have listened to what you have to say about our strategy, we will develop an annual action plan (as a companion document to our annual Operational Plan) which clearly states our goals, objectives, measures and outcomes for the year ahead. This will be published by the end of April 2012. We recognise that we can be most effective when we work with partners who spend all of their time directly working with and supporting children, young people and families living in poverty and will commit to working with partners who are able to work with us in this way. As a national organisation we will map the activity in the action plan to ensure that we are addressing participation poverty in the areas of Wales where it is most needed.
