Evening Talk: I predict a riot

This event has finished. 18 Jun 2009, 6pm-8pm
I predict a riot

There is tension in the air, a mix of fear and adrenaline…

Battle cries and threats are shouted…

Here comes the charge and the sound of clashing shields…

2000 years ago this would be part of the job for a Roman soldier. Today it is still an experience for people who are involved in riots and demonstrations all over the world.

Presented by Dai Price, Learning Officer at the National Roman Legion Museum, ‘I Predict a Riot’ will show how equipment and tactics inspired by the Romans have been used by modern police.

Live demonstrations by a Roman soldier and a riot policeman will make this a unique event that is not to be missed, running in conjunction with Big Pit.

The evening will include a discussion with a panel of experts including a Roman military expert, a former policeman and a protestor from the other side of the shield, who will talk about their

experiences and answer questions from the audience.
