Gathering Light

To 24 January 2010 10 - 5pm
by Linda Lichtman, USA
by Holly Sanford, New Zealand

A major new exhibition of international contemporary stained glass is at the National Waterfront Museum until 24 January 2010.

Following critically acclaimed showings in Liverpool and Paris, courtesy of Swansea Metropolitan University's Welsh School of Architectural Glass, the work of five of the world's leading female glass artists and Swansea Metropolitan University Alumni will be on display.

Gathering Light highlights female artists trained in traditional stained glass who now interpret this heritage using contemporary language.

All the exhibitors are professional artists with individual styles that reflect their range of cultures and backgrounds. Their work demonstrates the range of artistic possibilities in contemporary decorative glass.

Gathering Light is the first in a year-long international programme of exhibitions at the Museum hosted by Swansea Metropolitan University.

In 2010 the Welsh School of Architectural Glass at Swansea Metropolitan University celebrates its 75th anniversary.

The School is unique in that it is the only purely architecturally based glass course in the world. Many of today's leading practitioners have learnt their design and craft skills in Swansea.
