Evening Talk: With a little help from our friends - The Roman auxiliary forces
Half of the Roman Army of the 1st and 2nd centuries AD was made up of non-citizen warriors from all over the Roman Empire - the auxilia.
We will discover the origins of these men, their lives, their pay, how they were armed and how they were used in battle.
What happened to them at the end of their service, and why were the auxilia so important to the Romans?
Join us at the National Roman Legion Museum for a talk by Mike Thomas, with light refreshments.
