Keepsakes
What would you consider to be a keepsake? What objects are important to you and why?
Special items can remind us of people and places, evoking memories of important occasions and milestones in our lives.
Museums are full of keepsakes, each one with its own unique story to tell.
Objects collected by museums are often things that were of sentimental value to their original owners. Many were passed down from generation to generation as family heirlooms.
This exhibition is the result of a twelve month community arts project led by the Women’s Arts Association. Women from Barry and Cardiff were invited to respond creatively to the Museum’s diverse collections.
Professional artists Prue Thimbleby and Becky Adams shared their skills and knowledge with the participants through a series of weekly workshops – the results of which are on display.
Objects from the collections at St Fagans are shown alongside the artwork that they inspired.
Each piece is a memento of the women’s personal experience of the project and a precious keepsake to treasure.
