Drop into Rhyd-y-car to see heritage potatoes being planted and an opportunity to ask about this specific gardening technique.
At St Fagans we try to grow vegetable varieties that are appropriate to the date of the houses. We have five varieties of potato that predate 1850, including ‘Lumper’, the ill fated variety that was almost universally grown in Ireland at the time of the great famine of 1845-49.
