Josiah Wedgwood (1730-1795) is celebrated as a pioneering innovator, not only in the history of ceramics but also as a retailer and a social reformer.
He was, in the words of Gladstone, 'the greatest man who ever, in any age or country, applied himself to the important work of uniting art with industry'.
In her lecture, Gaye will examine the influence of this remarkable man, including references to Wales and its ceramics industry.
Gaye is Director of the Wedgwood Museum, Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and a Fellow of the Museums Association, and a renowned speaker and author on British ceramics.
