‘Bling!’ – Learning through Culture and Creativity
This display showcases the lively and vibrant work produced by young people, from around Wales, all with a completely different take on the ‘Bling!’ theme.
We have looked at how precious metal, treasure and decoration is used to express taste, image and personal status.
Each group has worked with an artist to create their own ‘Bling'.
This could be anything from a simple ring to complex giant necklaces or music videos and graffiti art.
The groups have been behind the scenes at our museums to discover the jewellery, artefacts and gems that are kept in the collections.
You can see some of the influences in their work, whether it’s coal as ‘black gold’ or ‘Bling in art’.
You can see ‘Bling!’ displays at National Museum Cardiff, National Waterfront Museum, National Wool Museum, National Slate Museum, National Roman Legion Museum and Big Pit: National Coal Museum.
This is a Wales-wide project for young people funded by Amgueddfa Cymru – National Museum Wales and the Communities First Outcomes Fund.
