The iron armour and weapons which played a major part in the success of the Roman army are familiar to most people, but less familiar is the great range of tools and equipment which enabled that army to function.

Both aspects of this subject will be discussed in this lecture.

Speaker William Manning, Emeritus Professor of Roman Archaeology at Cardiff University, has devoted many years to the study of Roman iron weapons and tools.
