This plate was created by using seven different ‘strips’ or ‘bands’ of slate from northWalesand theUSA. The Welsh slates were sourced from Penrhyn, Llechwedd, Corris, Ffestiniog, and Dyffryn Nantlle, whilst the American slates are American ‘Red’ and ‘Unfading Green’.

The plate is one of a pair, commissioned by theNationalSlateMuseumto commemorate its twinning with the Slate Valley Museum,Granville,USA, in May 2007. Mr Rice created two identical plates. The other was presented to the Slate Valley Museum.
