Introduction: jordanite occurs typically as a minor mineral in diverse sulphosalt-rich sulphide assemblages. As with many lead sulphosalts, jordanite can be difficult to identify, especially when fine-grained, requiring analytical techniques to confirm its occurrence.
Occurrence in Wales: a 'rare lead sulpharsenide', found in a polished section of ore minerals from Parys Mountain on Anglesey, was identified, on the basis of calculations from electron microprobe analyses, as being 'closest' to jordanite (Sivaprakash 1977). No further description is available. It is reasonable, from the comments of Sivaprakash, to state that further analytical work is required to be absolutely confident about the occurrence of jordanite at Parys Mountain.
