National Museum Cardiff first stop for tour of British masterpiece
A collection of art works, which reflect artist John Piper’s unique vision of Wales, has been acquired on generous terms for Wales’ national art collection. The series of works by Piper – the mid-20th century neo-romantic artist – has been purchased from a private individual with links to Wales, thanks to the generous support of the Heritage Lottery Fund (£472,900), the Derek Williams Trust (£350,000) and the Art Fund (£80,000).
School’s out for a week but there’s plenty of events, activities and exhibitions on at National Museum Cardiff and St Fagans National History Museum to keep the kids happy this half term 22-28 February whatever your interest, from art and crafts, archaeology, gardening to natural history – and admission is FREE!
This month will be the last opportunity to see Wales’s prehistoric, Roman and medieval treasures in their current form at National Museum Cardiff, before part of the collection is redisplayed at St Fagans National History Museum. Amgueddfa Cymru – National Museum Wales has been awarded funding from players of People’s Postcode Lottery, to offer visitors a broad range of exhibitions and activities at its national museum in Cardiff.
Amgueddfa Cymru – National Museum Wales is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr Peter Wakelin as the organisation’s new Director of Collections and Research. Peter Wakelin joined Amgueddfa Cymru this month and will be responsible for the departments of Art, History & Archaeology, Natural Sciences and Collections Services.
