Big, small, real or model, there's something for everyone at the National Slate Museum's annual Model Railway extravaganza coming up this half term, between 22-25 February 2007.

Painting the Coalfield

Life as a coal miner has proved to be a rich source of inspiration for many artists over the years. During half term, Big Pit: National Coal Museum will give visitors the opportunity to create their own masterpieces and study artists influenced by this theme, including some who worked at the coalface themselves.

Workshops will be held at Big Pit on 19, 21 and 23 February (11 am - 4 pm) giving participants the chance to learn more about the mining industry and draw or paint their own perceptions of life at the coalfield.

Wanted: Information on Welsh coal mines after 1947

Big Pit: National Coal Museum is planning to produce an illustrated booklet telling the story of workers from abroad who came to work in Welsh coal mines after the Second World War. We would like to interview former miners who were born in Poland, Ukraine, Latvia, Germany, Italy or the former Yugoslavia.

Impressive Half Term Line Up at St Fagans

As Wales gears up to face the remaining three countries in the Six Nations championship, St Fagans: National History Museum is preparing for the opening of a brand new gallery, Oriel 1 with a series of events during February which will suit avid Welsh rubgy fans.

Activities planned for half term at the open air museum will focus on some of the things which make us proud to be Welsh - a topic explored in Oriel 1, which will open at St Fagans later in the Spring.

St Teilo's Day of celebration

St Fagans: National History Museum's annual St Teilo's Day celebration is always well attended, and with the reconstruction of St Teilo's Church at the site near completion, this year's St Teilo's Day event held at the Church tomorrow on 9 February will be even more significant.
