Excavation &Fieldwork

Excavation is the main means of enhancing the archaeological collections; it can address areas of weakness and also develop areas of strength, ensuring the continued role and future potential of the collections. Fieldwork projects provide essential contexts (local, national and international) for artefacts or collections, key elements of display and research. A recent addition to our fieldwork programme is the investigation of find spots of potential treasure, which is required for the preparation of reports for Coroners. Research excavations are eminently newsworthy and provide enhanced profile for our work. Fieldwork makes a lively contribution to learning, creative programmes and community-based projects.
