Catalogue of Botanical Prints and Drawings
At the National Museums & Galleries of Wales
Botanical illustration is a true marriage of science and art. Developed as an aid to scientific research, these images have also become a way of recreating and preserving the ephemeral beauty of plants. The extensive collections of botanical prints and drawings held by the National Museums & Galleries of Wales, which include over 7,000 works, are catalogued here for the first time. They include works by such renowned artists as Blackwell, Ehret and Redouté. Seventy-five colour illustrations reveal some of the treasures from the collections, and the catalogue includes portraits and biographies of some of the people who form the history of this fascinating science.
