To help you experience business and the world of work you should work together with others in a team of 3-6 members and use skills and knowledge you have developed from researching Amgueddfa Cymru - National Museum Wales to design and develop an innovative product based on the collections at the museums. The product must be cost-effective, innovative and suitable for sale in the Amgueddfa Cymru shops.

Cost: Free of charge as is a self-led session.

Victorian Medicine

National Waterfront Museum

Join our character actor and find out about the grim ways the Victorian pit doctor treated the illnesses from blood-sucking leeches and broken bones to amputations without anaesthetic. Explore the themes of sickness and health in industry through objects and hands-on activities.

*Please note that while most pupils will enjoy the session, some of our more sensitive visitors may find the topic a little worrying. We are happy to talk through any concerns you may have.

Welsh Baccalaureate - First World War

National Waterfront Museum

This session will help students commemorate the centenary of the First World War. Students will explore the important role that women played in the conflict as munitions workers, nurses and Land Girls.  Attention will also be given to the moving story of local conscientious objectors. These men refused to fight in the War because of their religious and political beliefs. Were conscientious objectors cowards or heroes?

Swansea had its own local 'pals' battalion. Learn about their terrible sacrifice at Mametz Wood in 1916. What were the advantages and disadvantages of local 'pals' battalions?  Prior to the War thousands of German men married local women and settled down in south Wales. Find out what happened to these families when Britain declared War on Germany in 1914.

This workshop is delivered by the West Glamorgan Archives.

Welsh Baccalaureate - Three Nights' Blitz and the Home Front

Groups will be introduced to a number of original documents created during the Three Nights' Blitz including photographs, school records, newspapers, a list of those who died and a Luftwaffe target map.

The First World War Education Project

The National Library of Wales and National Museum Wales are leading a project to produce education resources for schools to commemorate the centenary of the First World War. As part of this project we are using items from the collections of both institutions to create digital teaching resources for Hwb.
