Volunteering

Work Placements are a great way to gain on-the-job experience, explore career options, demonstrate initiative and develop skills further. Amgueddfa Cymru make a certain number of placements available every year, demand is always high and due to this we advertise all of our spaces on our website or via certain Universities. Successful applications are based on a clear match being identified between projects and the applicants’ objectives and studies. With eight museums across Wales, our Work Placements can cover many areas, unfortunately, we are not in a position to accept students from overseas and all applicants have to be studying/living in the UK.

Take a look at some of our past Work Placement Holders experiences:

“I am a second year student at the University reading Welsh as a second language. The reason I choose to go to St Fagans was that it would help to develop my Welsh skills and my experience of working as part of a team and independently. Every day my experience at St Fagans has been interesting. I have worked with different departments and seen how the Museum works together to attract many visitors by holding events throughout the year. My favourite part of the placement was spending time in the historic buildings talking to staff and the public. I also enjoyed speaking to the curators as I was able to converse with them in Welsh.” - Kate Breeze.

Placements are always agreed for a fixed period of time and involve a commitment of time by the applicant, usually during Monday to Friday office hours. Successful applications are based on a clear match being identified between projects and the applicants’ objectives and studies. The minimum age for Work Placements is 18 and there is no upper age limit. The Work Placements that are currently available are shown below, please do not contact us unless it is in response to a specific advert.
